Synopsis
Unlike other spindle types, geared spindles contain no additional gearing, but drive the load directly from the gear itself. Therefore, gear spindles perform better when heavy cutting or durable grinding is used. The difference between gear drive and direct drive is significant. In the gear main shaft, there is no longer a transmission medium between the main shaft and its gear set, and power can be directly transmitted. But at the same time there is very little buffer space for twisting. Grinder spindles are usually direct drive, while milling and tapping machines may use gear-driven spindles because grinding requires more torque than other machine tools.
