Long Fiber Thermoplastics (LFT) is a type of easily mouldable thermoplastic used to create a variety of components used primarily in the automotive industry.
Using LFT reinforcements in the thermoplastic composite process enables molders to produce structural and semi-structural parts, compounding the fiber glass in line with injection or compression molding techniques.

LFT’s development and application in China are relatively later than other countries, but it develops very fast. In China, materials of LFT are very rich, and the technique of LFT is becoming more and more mature, all these reasons result that LFT has a very large market in China.
The manufacturing cost of LFT is liable to be influenced by the raw materials, and the price of raw materials tends to decrease in these years. Raw materials of LFT mainly include substrate materials and reinforced materials. Among substrate materials, the most widely-used substrate is polypropylene, next is polyamide. Both of them have mature techniques, and also they have many manufactures, such as BASF, DOW Chemical and so on. As one of the best reinforced materials, Fiberglass has a high requirement on the manufacturing process, so the number of its manufactures is very few, and Jushi Group can be the most representative manufacture.
At present, the common products of LFT are mainly LFT-G and LFT-D, and the finished LFT-G is grain-like, while LFT-D is processed by direct injection moulding. The main equipments used are single screw extruder, twin-screw extruder, and injection moulding machine. Now all over the world, most of LFT companies introduced automatic production lines, but the machinery makers possessing these technologies are very few, they are mainly Fujian Haiyuan Automatic Equipments, Dieffenbacher, CPI, KraussMaffei Group.
